Dye penetrant testing is one of the most widely used non-destructive testing methods for detecting surface-breaking defects such as cracks, porosity and laps in non-porous materials. The process involves applying a liquid penetrant to the test surface, allowing time for it to seep into any defects, removing the excess and then applying a developer to draw the penetrant back out and reveal indications.
