Nexxis Technology Acquires BladeBUG, Expanding Global Wind Energy Inspection Capabilities

Nexxis Technology, a global leader in robotic inspection and remote visual inspection solutions, today announced the completion of its acquisition of BladeBUG, the UK-based robotics company renowned for its advanced wind turbine blade inspection technology.
The acquisition marks a significant milestone in Nexxis Technology’s international growth strategy and strengthens its position in the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. By bringing together complementary robotic platforms, artificial intelligence capabilities and specialist engineering expertise, the combined business will deliver a more comprehensive and scalable approach to wind turbine inspection, maintenance and asset integrity management.
BladeBUG has earned international recognition for its innovative six-legged robotic crawler that uses suction-based adhesion technology to traverse wind turbine blades and perform contact-based non-destructive testing (NDT). The technology enables inspectors to identify leading-edge erosion, subsurface defects and structural damage while significantly reducing the need for rope-access inspections and other high-risk manual methods.
Combined with Nexxis Technology’s portfolio of robotic inspection systems, including its Snowcat crawler for internal blade and confined-space inspection, Zenith for tower and vertical asset inspection, and the Magneto electromagnetic robotic platform for ferrous structures, the acquisition creates a more complete inspection ecosystem capable of addressing a wider range of assets, surfaces and operating environments.
The integration of Nexxis’ modular robotic architecture, artificial intelligence, machine vision and advanced data analytics capabilities is expected to accelerate future product development and unlock new opportunities for automated inspection across the renewable energy sector and beyond.
Addressing a Critical Industry Challenge
As wind turbines continue to grow and move further offshore, asset owners face increasing pressure to inspect critical infrastructure safely, efficiently and cost-effectively. Traditional inspection methods often require technicians to work at height in challenging environments, while visual-only approaches can miss defects that lead to unplanned downtime, expensive repairs and reduced asset life.
By combining BladeBUG’s proven external blade inspection technology with Nexxis’s existing inspection platforms and global support network, operators will gain access to a single, integrated inspection pathway covering external blades, internal blade structures, towers and associated infrastructure.
The acquisition will also provide BladeBUG with access to Nexxis’s established operations across Australia, North America, Asia-Pacific and other international markets, accelerating commercialisation opportunities and expanding customer access to its technology.
